Some European countries have a 40 hour work week maximum (volunteered overtime is allowed).
The US is still living in the 1800s when it comes to labor rights so we don’t have the freedom of a living wage for 40 hours of work.

Capitalism is bad at pricing in externalities. It’s pretty good at using price signals to allocate finite resources to more productive uses.
Markets do not equal capitalism. You can have the efficiencies of free markets (worker owned co-ops which are market socialist) without the all consuming greed of capitalism.
Like farmers who refuse to let the government plant shelter belts to preserve our top soil all because they don’t want to take a 5% hit on their yields… So instead we’re going to deplete our top soil in 50 years and future generations will be completely fucked because creating 1 inch of top soil takes 500 years.
Sure, but in that case they need to make the server code open source so game owners can run their own servers.
Or they need to include a lan / offline mode
Or China! Open source is basically digital communism so maybe they’ll step in and support it like they did with the World Health Organization
I get called tankie from time to time, but 1a. I hate Putin’s corrupt fascist oligarchy 1b. I fully support Ukraine!
The Uyghurs absolutely were mistreated, but it is hard to care about at the moment when the US and Isreal are carrying out an actual genocide. Also, neo-nazis have taken over the US and are illegally abducting minorities.
I think the DRPK is very problematic, but they seem to be doing well despite the US putting such ridiculously excessive embargos and sanctions on them. Overall they are probably no worse off than capitalist India and they are probably better off than most 3rd world capitalist nations like Iran, Brazil, Haiti, Afghanistan, etc…
Are anti-genocide “tankies” really the biggest threat to democracy right now?
Fascists and Nazis are in the white house destroying the US. They are also on the verge of taking over and destroying Europe.
Everyone to the left of fascism needs to unite together to stop the neo-Nazis before it is too late. If the Nazis are allowed to start ww3 then nukes will end us all.
Jokes aside, all of my favorite IDEs have an option to use VIM key bindings so learning VIM makes it easier to learn other IDEs.
That alone was enough to convince me to learn VIM
Flatpaks work great on my laptop, but they have can have issues if you use multiple hard-drives or partitions. Especially for gaming.
I fear that a manufactured depression is forming that will completely wipe out the remnants of the middle class (workers who own assets).
The state is publicly funded, but yeah, it is better if the public can solve a problem without the state or without oligarchs like Elon involved.
Lead poisoning. Leaded gasoline started in the 1930s, but in the 50s and 60s we destroyed our public transportation and then destroyed millions of black homes to build highways through our cities. So leaded gasoline peaked in the 70s.
Oh, and boomers, who have the most lead brain damage, hold all the political power because they hold all the wealth.
I am worried that this could be bait. Elon can see that the entire world is turning on him, but if violence escalates then Trump could use it as justification to declare Martial law.
Is it an artifical block or is windows 11 just so bloated that it can’t run correctly on older hardware?
Isn’t Android open source? I like Linux, but I alternate being amazed by Linux and frustrated by how buggy the experience is. Everything on my Android phone / tablet just works effortlessly. But with Linux, it is a crap shoot. My Linux audio drivers kept popping my speakers and it took me hours to figure out the bug. Then when I run wine for a game it randomly thinks it doesn’t have enough storage space. Or how Chrome was having memory leaks. Or all the times I have had to use special bash commands or directly edit configuration files
Well, investing in public education, infrastructure, healthcare, and renewables isn’t immediately profitable and US capitalism doesn’t do anything unless the rich can immediately profit from it… So would it actually make any difference if the billionaire class gave up on LLM? They’d probably just build more penis rocket ships or stupid fake hyperloops. Or maybe more nesting Yachts. Either way, they aren’t going to use our resources to help us in any meaningful way.
Reddit is shadow banning people like crazy as well. This is scary
I am not sure I agree that the old rule was replaced. Before, the oligarchs ruled from the shadows by controlling political campaign finances and lobbyists. But now, the oligarchs are so powerful they are ruling directly. The country is still heading in the same direction (relentless growth of power disparity between the rich and power) just at a quicker pace.
FDR was the last US president that fought for the working class. Every President since Reagan has overseen policies that have weakened the working class and transfered power to the rich. Republicans were far more aggressive about it, but liberals still did it at a slower rate.
Nicht wahr. I failed my first Discrete Math exam trying to teach myself using only the provided resources (professor, text book, notes, etc). The only reason I passed with a C was because I was able to watch lectures from better professors on YouTube.
I have also used YouTube to fix my car and many other things. Old Reddit (corporate social media) was a very valuable resource of knowledge.
Every single human accomplishment of note was only made possible through social bonds and social collaboration. We need each other. We need tight knit communities, but since so much of the soul of our race has been eroded by capitalist zombie consumerism and the atomization of individuals through car dependent urban sprawl, we are sometimes forced to rely on social media to meet that need.
