Time to post the classics Bill Hicks and George Carlin.

Copyparty is easy, but if you can both set up syncthing, that makes it a breeze. I have a sibling that lives across the Pacific and last time they visited I set up syncthing on their laptop and when either of us wants to share something, we just drop it in that folder and wait a minute or two.

I remember watching Siskel and Ebert talking about DVDs when they first came out. They were fired up and saw a future where the raw media would come on the DVD and the version you watched could be influenced by an overlay. Like you could have “studio release”, “director’s cut” on the same disk, and even download fan edits (just directions for what to play in what order. A small text file) and watch those versions. I thought that was a pretty cool idea, but of course it didn’t take long for DVDs to get locked down and start forcing people to watch unskippable ads on the DVDs you bought.

Could be better, but still a huge step up from the hate rhetoric magats get spoon fed 24/7 from Fox and friends.

For those of you old enough to remember, rpm dependency hell

I installed and then ran Gentoo for about 9 months back when it first came out, before Robbins stepped down. I remember the install was pretty involved, but after that it was a pretty sweet system. I keep saying I’m going to go back to it, but just can’t be bothered anymore. As good as it was 20 years ago, I’m sure it’s even better now.

Haha, that’s like my mom telling my kid (20+ year old), that his using Discord is “going to radicalize you” because she read about someone who was radicalized while spending too much focus on some idiot maga discord channel.

That’s my first thought everytime I see something with this fine detail. It’s going to be a blob.

If I can’t find a half-way decent replacement when I have to get a new phone, I’m getting something super basic. Flip or whatever, only for emergency use. Something that’s not corrupted by google.

This is why whenever someone spits “liberal” out in a discussion, it just freezes my brain for a little while as I try to figure out what the fuck they mean by the word.

Are you high?
Yeah, it doesn’t have to be live action, animated would be fine. I just think it would be a hard job to do it justice. I just finished the 2nd Mistborn series (for the second time) a couple days ago, and I found myself trying to picture how it could be done. Not that it needs that treatment, books are almost always better, but I hold out hope for some skilled visionary to blow me away. That said, thanks for reminding me that I never got around to watching the live version of Ghost in the Shell. I’m getting it right now.
Ah, The Survivor. I’ve never been able to wrap my head around what the allomancers would look like in a movie version. Yours is as good as any.

The things I’ve been reading for years about Debian make me think most “linux” people really don’t know or understand what stable/unstable means.

Yeah, it stopped working for me a little while ago, then I clicked some more stuff and it worked. I’m running Lineage OS release 22.2-20250808. In Magisk I have MagiskHide Props Config, MysticBlaze347 Presents:Xposed-HiddenCore, and Play Integrity Fix. I don’t know that all of those are needed, but it’s what I run. Under Settings->Configure DenyList, I have both Google Play… and Google Wallet checked. When it wasn’t working, I clicked on both of those and just made sure the sub-check settings were clicked as well. There are only like 2-3. After that it worked like it used to.

I’ve been running Lineage OS for quite a while now. No issues with my banking app, and it just took Magisk for the Wallet to work.

I’ve been running unstable for a couple decades now as my desktop. I’ve occasionally taken months-long forays into other distros, but always come back to Debian. It just works, which is what I care about.

Not many, but I sure wish all.
I wish the article said what those “eyebrow-raising” comments were. I don’t care enough to watch…errr…listen to the shit though.
