I’m looking for easy but engaging and NOT tacky. Will be watching on my tablet so nothing that will get lost on it.

Any ideas?

Seven Samurai, if you haven’t seen it. It’s long enough that it features an intermission. One of the top, all-time-classic films, and debatably Akira Kurosawa’s most influential work, given how many remakes and reimaginings there are of it.

For something less classic and more quirky, check out The Hudsucker Proxy.

If you’d like an anime drama, check out 5 Centimeters Per Second. It’s a feast for the eyes and won several awards when it came out. That one’s also only just over 1 hour, so it’s convenient to squeeze in if another film doesn’t fill the time of the flight quite right.

I quite enjoyed watching Killers of The Flower Moon during a long flight, as well. That one’s like 3 hours, so it’s perfect for when you’re on a plane with no distractions.

Just to add a couple more if people like the first couple suggestions

Yojimbo is my favorite Akira Kurosawa movie, and works well as a double feature with the follow up Sanjuro. Both were also big influences on western makers like Sergio Leone like a fistful of dollars and for a few dollars more that led to the good the bad and the ugly epic.

Hudsucker Proxy is a classic Coen brothers movie early in a long line of really good movies & some others that have some lighter tones are leaving Arizona, the big Lebowski, baton fink, & o brother where art thou. Similar older comedy I’d check out some Marx brothers and they have done a bunch of work with Sam Raimi (spiderman 1-3, evil dead, drag me to hell)

And one that combines both suggestions pretty well I think is the latest True Grit remake
