I purchased all the big VR titles but i’m waiting to play them on the galaxy XR whenever i can get my hands on it. So i can’t really say what my VR game of the year is yet. I’ve been enjoying battlemarked and roboquest VR lately.

Edit: i’ve had glaring issues in battlemarked that i wish i could refund the game but can’t since it took me 5 hours to get this sick of the issues and not finding ways to work around them. Only game in my life i’ve rage quit because of game mechanics issues and design flaws.

It was a pretty rough year for good VR releases IMHO. All the stuff that came to my mind were actually released last year.

The Crysis VR mod went 1.0 this year and is pretty good. Technically cant be nominated for the steam awards though.
On Quest the biggest Release is probably that new Deadpool game? Maybe i check out the unofficial Pico port. But i’m too burned out by superhero media tbh.

I scrolled through all the VR games released on steam this year and these games stand out to me atleast:

    • Into Black - While it didnt win me over to buy it, it seems to be competently made and reviewed well.
    • Wanderer Remake - Played the demo and had fun with it. Will check it out in the future.
    • Virtual Skate - Played the demo and the gameplay mechanics felt really promising. But i will wait for the full release. I cant stomach yet another early access title right now.
    • Ghosttown - Tried the demo and it was pretty fun. Spooky puzzle games arent really my genre though.
    • The Midnight Walk - This is my actual nomination i think? Super unique and beautiful artstyle. I love it so much. At the same time its way too scary for me.
    • Gorn 2 - Uh, the first game couldt hold my attention for more than one or two hours with its gameplay loop. Its fun, well made and the second game is surely better and well received. Just not for me i guess.
    • Le-Man Ultimate - The only simracer this year which wasnt an utter disappointment. Congrats to that. But i already have so many simracing titles in my library. Its a good game from what i’ve seen. But for me atleast it doesnt bring anything new to the table which would win me over to invest yet again.
    • Trasher - Looks stunning and unique. I really want to check it out some time.

So in hindsight my first sentence in this post isnt entirely true. Not great, not terrible.

Not sure if it was released this year, but the Metro VR game is quite good.
