Life is not a race or a videogame. Every person decides the goals and follows them.
There is no right or wrong. There is no goal. We have limited time in this world and it is up to us to decide what to do with that time.
Good idea would be to create a version of yourself in your head with a set date five years from now.
Write down what they have achieved and what they have going for them.
Compare yourself to that as you approach that five-year date.
I’ve noticed it seems very easy for other people to do it.
I see what you did there …
understand that comparison and expectations are the thieves of joy and learn how to appreciate the things you like about your situation.
also, understand that doing this is a lifelong effort that you’ll keep fucking up spectacularly; happiness has be created w effort.
Remember that everyone you’re comparing yourself to is naked under their clothes right now. Or just naked.
I seem to compare less when I care more about contributing than winning. I feel more stablely valuable when I feel I am working towards a greater good.
Also, I don’t think comparison is a conscious thing. Not every time at least. So really a good angle may be to try and be more accepting and react more comfortably to the comparisons you naturally make.
