Reddit privacy moderators recently censored this content over a day after it was posted. IMO the reason is suspicious.

(There are no subreddit rules banning “political propaganda” or “character assassination.” Nor does this comment appear to rise to either of those accusations: other non-removed comments back up the removed one.)

What’s the point of having this community? People that left Reddit after deciding that it’s not a place they can tolerate anymore, joined Lemmy, or mbin, or piefed to get away from the abuse. This smacks of a jilted partner occasionally stalking their ex from the bushes, seeking out validation that the breakup was warranted.
Instead of giving energy and time to the Reddit dumpster fire of the moment, put more time into the fediverse. We all know that corporate social media is never going to get better.
Reddit remains a powerful force. Ignoring it is like a wild horse putting on blinders at the ledge of a cliff and going running.
The point is mostly to contain the inevitable griping to some degree.
If there’s a c/ where complaining about reddit is the default, then it’s easier to channel such things to that c/ rather than dealing with it constantly in other communities. Can’t say how effective it actually is, but that would be the point imo
Honestly, that’s an interesting thing to consider and I hadn’t done that before. I think my own extremely strong hatred for centralized social media clouds my ability to not have a knee jerk reaction.
Is PTSD from being in a techbro’s walled garden a known phenomenon? LOL
i had a moment like, on realization that it’s mostly ai-chat bots just fanning flames specifically designed to encapsulate you. shit is insidious…
LOL PTSD is funny!
I didn’t say it was funny. I have PTSD, depression and an anxiety disorder. I’ve been in counseling for these things on and off since 2017.
But to clarify, the knee jerk reaction I referenced comes from my own triggers to certain things. So, that was an actual question; do people experience an instant PTSD-like reaction from their time on corpo social media after they leave it?
I think it would be less like PTSD and more like cult deprogramming
I don’t know, I kind of like hearing about the ongoing dumpster fire. It’s been years since I have been to reddit, so its kinda nice being reminder of why I’ve stayed away.
It’s possible to do both. It’s important to have a place that catalogs all the problems with reddit. Especially since they’re censored on reddit. If you don’t want to see it, unsubscribe from this sub.
I’m not subscribed to this comm, it shows up on my front page along with any other popular posts around fedi.
Then block it if you really don’t want to see anything to do with reddit.
I do want to see this comm. I never said I didn’t, you two just have really bad reading comprehension.
The way to do it is block communities you don’t want to see content from, which is kind of like unsubscribing if you browse All
yup! if you just view your subscribed comms, you’re gonna miss out on new comms you might be interested in. I see subscriptions as more of a “bookmark” for comms I want to visit again and don’t want to search for.
because of that, my frontpage displays all popular posts across fedi, and my blocklist is full of comms I don’t want to see, such as those in other languages or ones that aren’t there for me. like those where only women are allowed to comment, or only trans folk. you gotta respect their desire to not be bothered.
Well then perhaps use a little bit of discretion and common sense, and don’t come into a community that you’re not subscribed to, and start talking down how we shouldn’t be here.
Honestly get the F out of here.
nah, fam, I’m good. I enjoy a comm shitting on reddit. but hey, since we’re being rude, why don’t you just shut the fuck up, asshole?
What a fucking clown.
Welcome to the block list.
thanks! happy to be here!
I don’t want to move on from Reddit, I want to contribute to its destruction and/or replacement.
Do we tip a fedora or a pork pie hat here on Lemmy… or do we toss a beret like a frisbee?
Hm.
If you hold the view that it’s good to call out the bad behavior of Reddit in some discussion forum, then it literally has to be here on the Threadiverse. Surely I don’t have to explain to you how impossible it would be to hold power tripping mods and admins accountable on Reddit itself.
For myself, I don’t really care that much, I just browse All/Active and block communities that annoy me. I recommend this approach.
Absolutely, reddit was invaded by 4channers and Digg refugees as a foundation. The “culture” of the hivemind there was founded on being a snarky asshole to get internet points. And with that, power is inevitably desired by abusive people. Spez might as well be the posterchild for social media abusers. The mods and admins are just wannabe Spez.
But much like an abusive ex, at some point, people need to stop giving that abuser their energy. Giving it to them means they still have a level of access or influence they don’t deserve, and it’s a cycle of self harm.
Anyways, back to your point: I browse All and prune as I go. I need to make the time to prune again.
I do see the logic of the “abusive ex” approach and I think I even agree at the individual level, something like “if you want to move on from Reddit, get it completely out of your life.”
OTOH, having the only place where people can discuss the abuses and excesses of Reddit is a huge competitive advantage for the network as a whole IMO.
