Agreed, while it may be a story about all kinds of mythological creatures, Odysseus and his men are still regular human beings. That’s part of what makes this kind of stories work: the experience of normal people in an abnormal world.

There are movies to be made where it makes sense to strive for historical accuracy, bit I’m not sure the Odyssey is one of them. It was always a spectacular tale.

Yeah the Odyssey book itself is wildly not historical, so making the movie historically accurate would actually be doing wrong to the source material

There are material historical conditions embedded in myths, no? Some of which directly affect the progression and outcome of the myth?

All I’m saying is if theyre going to keep the setting ancient greece, itd be nice if the production had some more accuracy than just vibes. It’s a nitpick, sure, but it’s not unreasonable considering the director literally modelled a black hole for Interstellar.

I get its not historical, but its also not like it is set in a made-up fantasy world. It’s still ancient Greece, the Aegean Sea, etc. A little more authenticity would go a long way to alleviate the immersion-shaking sight of Hollywood superstars in cool stylized costumes. Just me though.

I agree. That greek vatman helm is just weird. Things like that take me out of the movie.

It is a poem about a myth. There is nothing to be accurate about.
