I’m aware of the issues with imported products vs locally produced products and Chinas politics in general.
However, let’s assume there would be a good reason to buy a Chinese product. How can you distinguish between all those almost identical looking unspeakable brands on Amazon from “proper” Chinese brands with a good reputation and track record in China?
What are the Chinese “equivalents” to European and US brands e.g. in household appliances, tools, IT, food etc?
Thank you. I actually own a 8bitdo controller and had no idea they are Chinese. Never heard of fiio, thank you for the link.
If you have the option to not buy from Amazon you will also have less junk to sort through.
Xiaomi is IMO already a household name, as is Huawei. Not many I have on the radar though
Thank you
If you see a generic looking product on Amazon or eBay by a brand whose name seems like it was created by a random name generator, it’s probably cheap Chinese junk. To be certain you can search up the product itself, most of the time sites like Aliexpress sell generic unbranded versions (for less money).
I see. Thank you. A website is at least a little more effort than just printing a label on the product.
Not the answer to your question, but just something to note with Amazon. They stock many high order generic products, and individual store sellers can list a product as their own, amazon will then part pick from the bin to fulfill the order.
This often means the brand of the store front is irrelevant to the product you receive. It can also mean stock rotates and the next order you have is almost identical but not quite. It can also occasional mean amazon part picker grabs the wrong part when you order a well known brand, as they either just eyeballed the grab or somebody dumped the wrong stock parts in the bin.
I see. I believe that’s a big problem since it’s hard to avoid or “punish” them by boycott. They will just appear again under a different name.
