Since getting ARC last week, the quality of my sleep has gotten so bad. I’m not talking about my sleep schedule, it’s the same as before. I’m talking about when I’m asleep… I’m playing the game in my mind? Yes, I’m looting in my sleep.

I know someone is gonna say blue light blah blah but I’m not spending more time on the computer than I was before. It’s just… something about this game

Great game btw

All great mechanic driven games do this to an extent.

I had this with Portal and Minecraft back in the day, it’s just because they’re games that force you to think with their mechanics.

when rainbow six first came out, I realized if was very easy to take my phone out and watch something while a person turned their back at me. i dont really know why but at the very peak of my addiction, i would try to be as sneaky as possible, walk across a room, take my phone camera out, take a picture, then continue walking forward like nothing happened lmfao.

parents should have gotten me tested for the tism but idk maybe 18yr old was too late x_x

This is fairly common if you play something lots and is known as the Tetris Effect. I once thought that I should light up a corner of my home in real life so that mobs don’t spawn.

Although I haven’t played ARC, I have definitely experienced this before. 😁 When Assassin’s Creed II was new I played it to such a degree that I was most definitely parkouring across Italy in my sleep!

This was me with Balatro last year. One time I stayed up till 3 AM, then counted to check when I’d need to get up for 8 hours of sleep: “4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack”.

I don’t really understand the endgame of this game. Something like PUBG has a clear goal every game. But here it’s just looting to get better stuff to loot more? With some PVP/interactions in between?

I played for about 5 hours and was totally bored, the whole game is just the endgame.

The real end game is that you get bored and stop playing. The game doesn’t really drop much story, just vague hints and tasks to guide you somewhat towards it.

You make what you make of it and move on

It’s a lot like Minecraft where there isn’t really a definitive endgame (I know Minecraft has the Ender Dragon now but still). There’s quests to do, a skill tree to fill out, loot tiers to climb, but the game leaves it to you as far as when and how you want to do all that stuff. Some people treat it as purely PvE, some as purely PvP, most are somewhere in between… it’s all what you make it.

      It’s definitely not for everyone

I did indeed dream about looting last night. I’m having a blast with the game so far; it’s got a really addictive loop.

ARC Raiders is an incredibly fun game. Really exposes both the best and worst of human experiences.

When ending the night after getting gunned down by a rat camping extract I can lay awake stewing over it for seemingly half the night. When the opposite happens, and I finish on a really good raid with some high level loot, I bask in the glow for the other half of the night.

haha yea i feel ya, got the same from a different game last night. the soundtrack was looping in my head and driving me mad.

    classic tetris effect.

you can likely prevent this when you stop playing an hour before you go to bed and occupy yourself with reading or anything that is not as mentally demanding.

I’ve had this sorta things relatively often, not only with games. I treated myself with a set of skis just this Sunday, and did ski for couple hours in the evening. The next night I was dreaming about it. I’ve also seen dreams of games I’ve played on previous day (usually happens when I had full day gaming), and other hyper fixations, also work.

Something I don’t remember is seeing dreams about cycling, though I’ve done tons and tons of it in the past 20 years, and it’s something I have almost always in my mind

I could see the movement bothering some people, idk it feels more realistic to me than people vibrating all over the place in cod 🤷‍♂️ especially considering your character is walking around with a backpack full of about 50 lb of loot

Well I mean I realize its not supposed to be realistic, it just literally bothers my brain to watch people run in that game. Its hard to describe.
