i think they are great when they are able to provide variety in terms of gameplay, challenge etc, as opposed to just being different layouts. My first thought is roguelikes and roguelites - Some of my favorite games are Binding of Isaac and Spelunky, which do it really well, and I still play the original roguelikes like Angband sometimes.
It’s kind of like email…
Looks like your post didn’t make it to their server.
Reminds me of a John Hodgman bit - we have ice hockey, field hockey, and air hockey, implying the existence of fire hockey.
I wasn’t affected by this directly, but from what I saw it was all handled extremely well - lots of notice so users could choose new instances and mods could coordinate moving communities elsewhere. Makes me optimistic for the fediverse.
That’s pretty cool 😎
Maybe the US is weird then? Seems like old money is always valid:

I’m not familiar with Quora or other specific alternatives - when I said Lemmy is the biggest alternative, that’s just based on what I’ve heard elsewhere, such as the “Reddit Alternatives” subreddit.
I can’t say I’ve experienced anything as bad as that kind of harassment - sorry to hear that. One thing you could consider is making a new account on beehaw.org - it’s Lemmy as well but with the goal of a safe, friendly environment, and they do a lot of deferating and moderation to keep it that way. So it would be a “smaller” Lemmy experience, but maybe a more pleasant one.
As far as I know, Lemmy/Piefed/Mbin is the biggest alternative to Reddit, so if it’s too small for you, there may not be a good alternative.
If you do want to stick it out, I’d recommend being liberal with blocking users you don’t want to see. I think there are a lot of good people here.
This is great! I hope more cities follow this example.
You have to read the end of Neuromancer to find out.
You have reached enlightenment.
The term I’ve heard is Threadiverse (i.e. Fediverse with threaded discussions), but that was coined before Threads launched so it’s a little awkward now.
You ever put in like 1 minute and 90 seconds, just for fun?
I guess they’re the members of each band that didn’t get as famous individually but who still do their thing as part of the band.
Part of you is oxygen you inhaled.
The most common symbol is the rainbow pentagon star thing, which there isn’t much very close to in emoji, but you could use ⭐ or 🌟.

People on the internet are so cute. like here’s a funny idea, let’s put “about it” at the end of a sentence about it
