Messy…

The only way I can describe this movie is messy.

Visually it is spectacular. Parts of it takes place in The Grid (which is a world within a computer) and parts take place in the real world and again the visual effects are spectacular in both. There was some really amazing scenes with the light cycles in the real world.

The sound track is not nearly as good as the first two Tron movies, but it does have it moments. There are a few great tracks in it.

The characters are just one dimensional cliches…

Clearly Disney is trying to set up a franchise with this thing. I doubt it will. The elephant in the room is Jared Leto as the title character. He pretty good in the role.

The movies is a D- and unless you are a big fan if the franchise skip it.

All they had to do is continue Tron Legacy’s story. Hell Legacy’s ending is a sequel bait, and they still fucked it up. 🤦

So wish they had built off of Legacy. I haven’t seen Ares, but the more I read, the less I care. Visuals and soundtrack alone do not carry a movie. I’m not even going to blame Leto for this, unless he was part of writing it. Which looking at the wiki for it, it was already a train wreck once it diverted from a continuation of Legacy.

The only good thing that came out of this abomination was new NIN

Jared Leto is somehow the best thing in the film besides the music AND an atrocious actor at the same time.

Completely and utterly forgettable, which is it’s own kind of achievement considering how much effort they put into how it looks.

This movie bothers me a lot because it could have been really great, the visuals and soundtrack are excellent. When everyone shuts up, there are glimmers of a good movie in there.

But man, the characters all suck and the writing is abysmal. Leto sucks but I’d argue Greta Lee (the main character) was even worse in acting. She was so obnoxious and flat. Tron Legacy didn’t have the best acting but it at least got the tone of the movie right, whereas here it felt like a goofy kids movie.

Clearly Disney is trying to set up a franchise with this thing. I doubt it will.

The movie bombed so you don’t have to worry about a franchise. I doubt they’ll ever make another TRON movie after this.

I completely agree on Greta Lee, good god she was just terrible in this.

During opening credits I saw leto as exec producer and said to myself, ‘that’s why it bombed, dude shoulda left his name off’. But I kept watching… And then I was like, wait, he’s starring in it?

Did he pay Disney to be in a movie?

Best part was Flynn doing a lebowski.

I thought it was good enough but calling it “messy” is a good description. Visuals were great, music was ok but with a couple of really good tracks, characters were all kinda meh but the overall story was pretty good. I’d give it 3 out of 5, maybe 3.5 if it in 4k with a quality setup.

I’d skip it even being a fan. Aside from the member berries its hot garbage. Flat characters, everyone is a CEO except for Ares who is a statue. Yet, somehow, the most relatable character at the same time. None of the cast returns from the previous films but Jeff Bridges and he plays a spectre of Flynn basically.

I liked it. I thought the action was pretty good and Jared Leto worked well. Setting aside my IRL feelings about the “AI” industry, the film had me caring about Ares and the future of programs like him. Whether intentional or not, I thought that the plot connected to how governments IRL are trying to turn “AI” into tools of hate.

Going into the film, I was a bit surprised that there was no real connection between it and Tron Legacy. I though the whole plot about Isos being advanced programs would have some relation to Ares, but it’s not even brought up.

Other that the visuals Leto was the best part of the movie.

That really isn’t saying much though. Everything the movie did was so paint by the numbers.

That’s actually saying a lot. When you step into shit and that shit is the best part of your shoe, you don’t have a good shoe.

I also enjoyed it, though I thought it peaked at the escape and then petered out slowly. It’s kind of like there is a sweet spot for the amount of Jared Leto and youd be better off to stop there. The audio and visuals are at times fantastic.

Sounds good enough to check it out. The soundtrack, that is.

Thanks for also covering the the only part I was looking forward to. Haha.

Gonna have to disagree with OP’s take on this; Nine Inch Nails’ take on Tron is awesome; lots and lots synths and heavy drum machines. Full album should be available and out there. What I will say is that it’s not the best thing that Nine Inch Nails has put out.

Love Daft Punk’s take on Tron too.

I imagine you can get the soundtrack from any streamer of your choice. It is not on the same level as the Daft Punk soundtrack by any stretch, but it has its moments.
