Basically what I mean is, did you also come here from reddit?

I came here after I got my Reddit account banned permanently. And the thing is, I don’t exactly know why I got banned. Nor what I did wrong. I always tried to follow the rules, post and comment appropriately and nicely, but on New Year’s Day last week, I got a message simply saying "Your account have been permanently banned for violating the rules.

But when I replied asking what rule or rules I unknowingly broke, they just messaged me back saying “you got banned because you violated the community guidelines”. So now I’m here.

What about you? Are you also a Reddit Refugee?

Same here. Once RIF was blocked, there was no way I could stay on the site given I’d never use the official app. Plus there was the whole principle of the thing.

Lemmy is 50% people who hate Reddit for giving the volunteer mods too much power to shape their communities, and 50% people who hate Reddit for not giving the volunteer mods enough power to shape their communities.

And no they don’t get along here either.

I came here as part of my migration to #Fediverse to escape undemocratic structures. I do this step by step as I still follow some valuable subreddits. But I gradually phase out.

I stopped using reddit years before Lemmy became a thing. I became a redditor back when Digg was still a thing, but reddit became worse and worse, and rediquette was basically unknown and never followed when I left.
Rediquette was actually one of the things that made reddit great, unfortunately we don’t have that here, but things haven’t devolved as bad here as they did on reddit.

Not banned specifically, but I came here because I wanted to run some communities, but ultimately it was impossible on Reddit. All the names are taken, all the aging mod teams set in stone. You essentially have no meaningful opportunity to build anything new on there. In contrast, and especially with federation, the Fediverse is a completely different system. A fresh start - still after 2 years. And it has way better internal advertisement of communities than Reddit does.

And to be clear, on Reddit you can easily just shout into the wilderness at no-one. Big audience means you can get drowned out.
