Fell back into the Octopus Project discography after stumbling across this semi-recent (3 years ago) video of them doing an old favourite of mine, I Saw the Bright Shinies on the Moog Etherwave Theremin.

They were probably the best live show I ever saw. They were moving around the stage and exchanging instruments among one another during songs in a hypnotic dance. It was really impressive and I’ll never forget it. Also, Yvonne is probably the best and most accurate theremin player I have ever seen.

I saw them with Man or Astro-Man? and since both bands had theremins, the show ended with Dueling Theremins and the fella from MoAM set his on fire during the peak.

I’ve been listening to The Barenaked Ladies & Great Big Sea a lot the last week, with a little Endless Taverns mixed in.

Apparently that’s because I misremembered the band name this morning lol.

Youtube link to the song that introduced me. They do electronic stuff based on DnD classes or 40k lore.

Lady Gaga and Ghost both have new singles that I’ve had on heavy rotation.

Jason Isbell released a new album, and it’s definitely a divorce album. Maybe not as many all-time greats as usual, since it’s so personal and occasionally pretty raw, but some beautiful turns of phrases and guitar work.

Tull just release the curious ruminant and im a bit meh about it. I really like the first album of the new iteration and the second was pretty good. Am a bit worried though as its like it was really like on the first one, like on the second and sorta meh about the third. So the trajectory is starting to not look good. Some of ians stuff takes a bit for me to warm to. I was a bit meh on roots to branches and later find I liked it. So will give it some more chances and see where it ends up.

Caught the Shannon/Narducy R.E.M. Fables tribute show last week, and continuing my deep dive into the genius of Mike Mills.

RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won’t be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There’s a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it’s vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a “controversial” message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a “spammy” message must be applicable to four purple answers before it’s allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it “would be a copyright violation if the info was art” as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar’s Number) or less, it’s considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.
