“He’s just a writer” only works for me if you have actively shipped a game and converted it from central servers to community maintenance. And no, “I ran a server once” doesn’t count, and neither does “I’ve been paid for code before, just not in games”.
From the tone and content of the conversation so far, Faliszek’s credentials are way above anybody who has chimed in here. You can disagree with him (I do in some things), but you can’t dismiss him out of hand based on his skillset. That’d be absurd on the basis of… well, his resume, but it certainly is on the face of the detailed information he’s sharing.
(and incidentally why nobody in the games industry wants to talk to anybody online, because damn)
