I’m sorry this idea is kind of hard to explain. Like if you had a torrent, but every week or so you’d have new interesting stuff to discover from it ?

LIke a “torrent channel” but fully decentralized somehow ?

Maybe you’d just get more torrents to choose from. Large, searchable torrent archives, “this week’s new torrents” ?

What about receiving news video, streams without a website to coordinate it, no gatekeeper except the digital signature of the strangers you trust ?

Like, why isn’t facebook a torrent network ? Why isn’t youtube, just torrents ? Facebook and youtube without having to ask Zuck and Goog for permission ?

The thing where gnutella doesn’t fit with what I’m searching for, is that the available files are on one person’s computer somewhere, they aren’t posted into a swarm of some kind. Yes that one isn’t gatekept, but each file is centralized in one place. It’s still great and in many ways more open to users to post what they want. I haven’t tried those in a long time !

But what I’m curious about is something that uses the swarm as the backend, not one person’s computer.

I guess in a way, maybe NNTP is more like what I’m searching for, even though it’s not really a swarm

There are many options to explore in this thread already however…

        Frost via Hyphanet

I had never heard of this, reading the page I thought this sounds like freenet, something I have not tried since … over 20 years.
After some reading turns out hyphanet is the old freenet , interesting !

As for IPFS, I never managed to find a single thing to download. Content discovery and communication is a problem there.
