I don’t thinks anyone who knows how current LLMs work actually thought they would lead to AGI. They didn’t fall for the Chinese room that they built they just hoped that others would.

    No shit.

As I often joke: the only people who genuinely believe AGI AI is intelligent now or soon are the ones lacking themselves intelligence.

Nitpick: if we had AGI at all, it would be intelligent. You’re referencing LLMs which certainly have no intelligence in how they work.

It’s a good thing we don’t have AGI too, as we’re doing terribly in regulation and control of the pseudo AI that’s available. AGI may not ever become a thing, or it may take a while, or it may be soon. We won’t be ready for it regardless at this rate, and we may not even realize what happened.

My bad, edition error - I initially wrote “AI”*, but then because translating drunk what you often say is a PITA for some reason replaced it with “AGI”. Thanks for pointing it out, I’ll fix it.

I agree the current lack of truly intelligent systems is a good thing.

*as in, the generic label used nowadays towards those systems, regardless of being actually intelligent or not.
