are interpreters better than subtitles? I mean assuming deaf people are not there in real life. btw “Donald trump interpreter” sounds like one of the worst/hardest jobs ever.

Do you think it would be just a bunch of incoherent rants? A dedicated Trump sign language interpreter could just be doing the Nazi salute the entire time and be the same result.

Subtitles are better for the hard of hearing and non fluent.

It depends on the person. For Deaf people raised with Deaf community sign language is often their native language and it’s far more effective at conveying emotions and nuance than subtitles.

But it’s also worth noting that in live performances subtitles are much slower than interpreters. Terps are able to keep up with even high speed rappers, while subtitles are usually like a second or more behind.

When it comes to who makes him come off worse, it’s probably actually the subtitles. They just say what words he said (adding tone would slow them further). Terps keep up and can give tone

Lemme guess. They’re gonna label it another “DEI based” program. Just like Calibri. As of now their policy changes have specifically targeted

    • poor
    • ethnic
    • disabled
    • LGBTQ+
    • non-Christian
    • female

Did I miss anyone else? (Basically it’s easier to say “everyone but rich, healthy, white males”)

Side note to anyone who hasn’t ever seen sign language stuff: I went to a performance of spring awakening my college put on. I went to one of the accessible performances where they pay for sign language translators and spot lit them up front alongside the performance.

It was amazing. Added a totally unexpected dimension to the performance. They were able to express EVERYTHING done verbally in purely physical expression. I had no idea it was so expressive.

Most professional theater runs I’ve found (here in the California bay area at least) have a sign language interpreter at one of the showings. We try to catch that show since my wife signs and it’s a dream to do that when she retires from her day job, but it doesn’t always line up with our calendar.

this is the perfect counter to both tell him to fuck off and rub his nose in his shitty personality.

from you last 15 tweets, tell the court which one improved your public image the most.

then proceed to show before and after approval ratings.

Right? They look at everything he’s said and done and think “you know that sign language interpreter is making us look awful”

Then learn sign language and sign it yourself as you talk you fuck. Lets all get together and follow this guy around, anytime he talks we all yell “shut the fuck up”. It would be so dsmaging to his ego.

I feel like those whistles they’re using for ICE alerts could be repurposed to drown out everything he ever says. Nothing of value comes out of him.

Which is to say, they don’t necessarily use the specific dissembling phrasing that he uses with his many and egregious lies so that he can later claim, if necessary, that that’s not what he said.

A friend from the States tells me people that sign what they verbalize to conservative misinterpret your generosity as if you’re insulting their intelligence, or that you’re implying they are retarded.

Friend was so shocked, they learned why ASL is fastly declining in use: Friend almost got death threatened.
