Online I found this egg for 23 euros. I then visited several sex shops asking for vibrating eggs like that one. On the first one they showed me this one for 130 euros. They insisted is waterproof according to IPX7 and that cheaper models are won’t bring me to orgasm.

Is the second model 6 times better than the first one? I never expected a sex toy to be this expensive.

At another sex shop they offered this which can be bought directly from the manufacturer for 50 euros, but in this sex shop was valued at 90 euros, which is an insane markup.

They also had this one for 130 euros in store.

I don’t know if I should only buy ‘brand’ vibrators or simply trust amazon reviews and buy the cheapest one for 23 euros. Other reviews about the most expensive models over 100 euros indicate some customers are unhappy with the product, considering the price. Neither do I know what brands are reputable ones, if any, because I cannot give back a thing like this if I don’t like it.

Every listed toy is made in China so I don’t get the radical markups.

If you use egg vibrators, are there any brands I should look for?

For vaginal and anal use.

My opinion, opposite from others, is start with a cheap one and see if you even like the concept. Maybe you don’t even like bullet vibes. You can learn that for 20 euros or 200. I think, better to buy a cheap one first and upgrade once you know you like it.

Do you actually want something that works through your phone? That’s a lot of hassle and if you are using it on yourself. Your phone will get all gooey. It’ll be difficult to hold the phone and the vibe at the same time. If you aren’t already looking at your phone, going into it will be distracting. If you are looking at your phone as part of the experience, you’ll have to switch out of whatever you are doing. It is a lot easier to use a more classic one with a tactile control (dial or buttons). Wired style means vibe part itself is lighter, while you can have more battery in the controller box.

    cheap, old fashioned bullet vibes

You can get them in silicone if you prefer.

If you specifically want a wireless one, then you should expect to pay some for all the extra electronic components and complexity compared to the above. Assuming you want it to work reliably.

Ideally you will go somewhere that has the demo items displayed so you can turn them on and handle them. You will get an idea of what they can do for you. Did you go to some little “boutique” “top drawer” place? Try to find somewhere with a wider selection. Even a small sex store should have several devices of this type to compare.

NSFW photos of sex shop toy displays

The markup is a lot, what is pays for is the rent, bills and payroll of running a brick and mortar location that is available so you can go and handle a bunch of toys before you buy them. It is a lot of overhead. So it’s good to buy stuff from those places when you can to keep them open for when you need them. At least a bottle of lube.

While I can’t vouch for the in person details, sex toys were a hyperfixation for me because I was going to open a sex shop myself. My findings were that around 86% of full silicon egg vibrators use comparable motors. So when the shop owner said it won’t bring you to orgasm, that’s scam language. They were looking for the upsell.

Now, like someone else said, good reciever is the make or break here, a lot of the remote only models we tested just had a single wire loop for an antenna, which is not reliable and prone to breaking in use. If you’re planning for anything other than personal use in a bedroom setting, look for Bluetooth compatibility.

Lastly, some other things to consider are charging style and battery life. Battery life is an obvious, if you take longer you’re going to be pretty peeved if it dies. As for chargers, I found that bare contacts will corode over time and models with rubber caps that cover a USB mini are worthless. Possibly the best option I’ve seen across the board was using 1.5mm mono audio jack that pushed through a raised silicone nipple. The seal was reliable at 2.5m water depth (deepest pool we could find locally), the cord itself was durable and easily sourced if you needed a new one, and the interface was waterproof enough that my test subject could charge it during use.

All of this is to say, price isn’t really a good tell. You’re better off looking for something that’s well reviewed and fits your needs.

The vast majority I worked with could be flexed a full 180 but had a preference to a specific angle based on either how they were packaged or moulded. We did have a few with cheaper antennas break internally with repeated flexing and tugging, those were all remote only.

In practice we found that that tails moulded into a tight C shape made them easier to wear under clothes as straighter J shaped designs would make an obvious bulge in tight clothes and shift around more freely during movement.

          hi, I’ve got more questions:

Some of the brands I checked sell g-spot vibrators and p-spot vibrators as well. Is the silicone used in anal toys different than the one used for vaginal toys? I was thinking about what others said about disinfecting anal toys thoroughly.

What do you think about this toy? Because it’s long and flexible I can insert it as deep as I want but it’s not rigid so it may not press against my g spot like the c shaped egg vibrators we mentioned. This particular model has a 1.5mm mono audio jack but no raised silicone nipple to charge.

Is the silicone used in anal toys different than the one used for vaginal toys?

I can answer this question specifically, no idea about egg vibrators in general. If it is actual silicone (and be careful, a lot of cheap Amazon sex toys are not actual silicone), then it’s non-porous and body-safe. In terms of pathogenic safety, any silicone toy can be used both vaginally and anally, and shouldn’t grow bacteria/mould/etc inside it. Toys made specifically for anal will be made of harder silicone to make sure it can penetrate, and you probably know this but should have a flared base for anal. But some toys designed for vaginas also satisfy those qualities.

Actual silicone can be safely boiled. I boil my dildos to disinfect them (after washing with soap and water first). I use gentle pH-neutral soap so as to not damage the toys.

The Lovense one is good if you want extras like ability to remote control the egg over the internet, sync it to music or games, do camming etc.

If you just want a vibrating egg then you don’t need the fancy ones.

If you want to control it with your phone, then be on the lookout for a good antenna. I originally bought the Lush 1 and it literally lost connection once clothes were put on. It seems to be better with newer models.

I’d like to preface this by saying that I’m a gay dude, so naturally I might not be the best fit for this, but I figure I might as well weigh in with what knowledge I have.

My experience skews more towards dildos and the like, and at least there you rather get what you pay for. Cheaper products have cheaper materials, sometimes there are unappealing smells, or icky residue. I have a pair of dildos I’ve never used because they were so gross. Since then I’ve paid the premium for the good stuff, and it’s been worth it.

In terms of vibrators, I’ve only ever owned two, a cheaper brand and a Lovense Edge 2. The cheaper brand conked out quite fast, and when I inspected it closely I noticed that the silicone had also torn in places. The Edge 2 on the other hand is solid.

That said, if the reviews are good, I’d be inclined to believe them. With the Lovense products I expect that a chunk of what you’re paying for is just the bluetooth connectivity and app features. If you feel the need to hook your toy up with your phone or PC then it might be worth it, but if you’re just after a vibrator with no frills attached, I’d give the cheaper ones a consideration.

The Edge 2, and I presume their other vibrators, have a proprietary charging connection. It’s essentially just two metal contacts and a cable with a relatively weak magnet attached; it does the job but for the price I think the cable could be nicer. It does mean that the toy itself is entirely waterproof though.

As an aside, pick up some good toy cleaner that’s compatible with the material of the toy you get. Lovense has a pretty alright guide on this. The nice thing about silicone dildos is that you can basically just boil them for a deep clean, but I’d this for electronic ones, waterproof or not. Look for something that’s antibacterial.

I use the Bad Dragon cleaner, which is excellent. It cleans nicely, the pump produces a foam so it lasts long, and it’s anti-bacterial. That said I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to order it on account of it shipping from the U.S. - it gets expensive and there will be something similar more readily available for you. Just look around.

In short, Lovense is a pretty safe bet but you’re not going to have 6 times better orgasms. Check the reviews and particularly look out for what people are saying about the material, you want to avoid porous toys because they are much harder to sanitise properly. Since anal will be involved you’ll want to take particular care that the toy is cleaned thoroughly, infections are no joke.

    Play safe, and have fun.

I see it, 2 unprotected metal contacts. No corrosion so far? No charging problems due to defective contact?

I don’t know if you’re telling me to boil silicone toys with electronics and motors inside of them or not to boil them.

No corrosion, also no boiling. I realise my point didn’t really get across well; good silicone is durable, and with simple non-electronic toys, like dildos, you can just toss them in a pot and boil for a while. What you want to avoid is oil-based or silicone-based lubricants because it can lead to material degradation, even if the silicone itself is really high quality.

My cleaning procedure for the edge is essentially to get the lube off, wash it with some anti-bacterial soap, and then dry it off immediately. It’s been about two years now and it’s in solid condition.

A little mixed up. Oil breaks down latex, not silicone. So it is unpopular mainly because of not being good with latex condoms. If latex isn’t part of the situation, oils and fats are fine. There are commercial oil-based lubes, or any oil or fat that it suitable to eat can be used for sex. Olive oil, crisco, whatever is available and works.

But the silicone-based lube advice stands. Do not touch silicone toy once with even the whiff of silicone lube on your hands. That is certain ruin. I never have them both out at the same time. Keep them in different parts of you home.

I don’t know, sorry. They might be. I thought the Edge would be more flexible than it is. The looks rather thin so if it’s not supposed to bend, then it looks like it might be really flimsy and easy to break. So it seems more logical that it’d be bendable.

        That’s just a guess, though.

I’m also in the market for an egg vibrator, apparently it makes for a really good breakfast if you scramble them before cracking into the pan.
