We’d have achievement parties, work on multiplayer cheevos, and just compete for the highest gamescore in general.

I take it that “cheevo” is what people are calling achievements now.

RetroAchievements does call theirs Cheevos in many places, even some folder names, ans possibly in the code too.

It’s been a shorthand for “achievement” for a long time. In fact, there’s an achievement in Fable 2 that’s called I Did This For A Cheevo (maybe that was the description?)

From the name, I’m assuming unlocking it involves some sort of sex act.

I prefer when games own up to it, like how looking at the porny posters in Metal Gear Solid 2 HD unlocks “Snake Beater”

Some do, some don’t. Within the PCSX2 project, a lot of members like to call RetroAchievements “RCheevos” (in large part, admittedly, because “RA” could be confused for “RetroArch”). Personally I think it sounds kind of dumb and prefer to just say “achievement”.
