What’s the Google Play System?

- Not everyone has a de-Googled phone

- Privacy ROMs aren’t easily accessible for everyone.
- Only a limited number of devices support them.
For the majority of Android users, Google Play System updates matter, and no, they don’t always install automatically.

What does this mean? What is “google play system”, is it different to “google play services”? Doesn’t that update itself? Are you describing something that’s specific to a particular device, ROM, or android version? Fancy giving us any more info at all?

For some weird reason it doesn’t update automatically all that much.

Got the latest one. Nothing’s wrong. I don’t want to be exposed to random exploits or something. Google sucks, but this is the next best thing for people who are unable to deGoogle.
I didn’t want to be exposed to exploits, so made sure to never install the Google services stuff.
Not everyone uses a custom ROM because not everyone has a supported device. If this doesn’t apply to you, just keep scrolling. People man…
Lol, Play is an exploit.
After 30 years in IT, I’ve seen 100x more systems taken down by updates than by exploits.
Actually, I’ve never had a system taken down by an exploit, 100% of outages have been caused by borked updates or changes.
I’ve had friends who’s clients have been taken hostage by exploits, and 100% of those have been because of poor security practices and phishing - neither of which is preventable by updates.
Here’s a question, if almost no-one sideloads or uses FDroid, where do people get the millions of malicious apps from? Play Store.
So where’s the problem again? Oh, yea, Play Store.
Why does Play need Play Protect if practically all apps come from Play Store?
Sure, there is a lot to be said about Google being a privacy nightmare, but Google Play system updates don’t release every other day; they’re actually pretty stable.
If you’re able to run a privacy friendly ROM and escape Google do it. But for most people (99,99% of Android users) it is in their best interest to keep their system updated – even if those updates come from Google.
I gave one example, which is the one you scrutinized. There are many reasons why someone who is running an Android (not de googled) device would want to update their Google Play system, however. Just search up what those are for.
Not sure why people are getting so butthurt over this.

Imagine having google play services and not running a degoogled ROM.
Imagine this being the default for 90% of people. Weird, huh?
My device is not supported officially by any privacy ROMs. I’d rather have some security than expose myself to random threats because of pride lol
