I just watched the “domestic” directors cut of this, It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it so I’m not sure what’s really different. It really doesn’t matter cause it’s such a great movie.
It has been a long time since I’ve seen it so I thought I’d rewatch it to see if I still really enjoyed it and yeah, it’s so much fun.
It’s really cool watching the three characters grow into their powers. It’s a nice take on the whole superhero genre.
Edit:
This movie has a top-tier cast.
Michael Kelly: of House of Cards fame
Micheal B Jordan: Whose career is peaking and he has delivered since the Friday Night Lights days.
Dane DeHaan: he does not have Hollywood looks at all, but every time I see him, the dude just shines on screen.
This is the closest representation I’ve seen to some of the stuff portrayed in Akira in a live action film. I really enjoyed it.
I love the Akria ending this has. It’s pretty sad if you think about it. The one guy was just trying to help his cousin be more outgoing and accepted, and it was working. Then the kid goes off the deep end, and the guys the only one left, all alone.
Yeah, I wonder if that was his own demons or if the exposure to the crystal exacerbated his mental state.
I would tend towards it being his own demons personally. There really wasn’t any hinting that the crystal affected their mind from what I remember… other than giving them unparalleled power.
If only he had not received that BJ…
Yeah and it didn’t make the other two malignant.
¿Por que no los dos? 😅😶
Great movie indeed, much better than what you would expect
Saw this a couple months ago and love it. The way the footage comes from random security cameras and cell phones to follow the ending was really neat.
So there’s a director’s cut? Did you find it on the seven seas?
Naw Amazon.
Thx!
You got me to watch it. Thank you!
Does it bother anyone that the story is basically telling kids to ostrasize wierdos because even if you try to be nice to them, they’ll go psycho? You could say the larger message is that one must learn self control and goodwill towards mankind, but I think that gets lost in the bigger caution that one can’t predict when the outsider is going to ramage.
It is definitley a movie of the current age. The theme of ‘display’ is interesting in that the trio both want to hide and show off. Filming is sharing unless it goes unseen. In this film, those who verbally share secrets are Good – they are seen – and those who hide them are not. Even with a record-everything camera in the mix, they have to share to be seen. Simply pointing a camera at yourself does not reveal one to others. That said, we don’t see much of how hard it would be to admit the secrets of a broken family life. I would have liked to see a bit more of that struggle, but I imagine that would have made for a different set of characters.
I was conflicted as well but tbh sometimes you do need a reminder that the weird kid that tortures bugs probably shouldn’t be trusted with power
I love this movie so much, and I try to share it often, people lose, interest too quickly because of the first person aspect I feel.
Yeah I get that, unlike many of the “found photage” movies it doesn’t have a lot of shaky cam. It is so good!
I really love it as well. It seems somewhat rare for people to like it as we do though :))
