Klaus Doldinger, who composed the soundtracks for ‘Das Boot’ and ‘The NeverEnding Story’ has died. He was 89.
The song plays in the background of the Never Ending Story adventure game for Atari 8-bit computers while you are playing, which impressed me at the time. The game also kept track of real time passing and would sometimes force certain moves if you sat at the prompt too long.
Those two soundtracks are stylistically as different as can be, and the fact that they’re at the same person shows an amazing range as a composer.
Also a number of very groovy lounge-jazz records composed in the 60s and 70s as advertising jingles and given away on promotional flexidiscs, in a way not really done anywhere except West Germany. A few decades ago, a Berlin label released a compilation of those titled Popshopping.
Oh, thanks for putting that song in my head.
Turn around…
I want to mention that the Neverending Story theme was written by Giorgio Moroder and sung by Limahl. So, nothing to do with the man who died other than sharing a movie.
But still, aaahhhhhaaaahhhhhaaahhhhh
Every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you’re never coming round
Turn around… Every now and then, I get a little bit tired
of listening to the sound of my tearsThat is also a great song!! Written by Jim Steinman
That’s Klaus, sharing his gifts.
