I don’t know who Dextinct is but they’re listed as author/publisher on a lot of these games
That’s a tag the site (confusingly) uses to denote an extinct game - no official channels to download/play.
Oh, ok. That explains why it’s on so many. Thanks!
Was looking for Global Agenda and didn’t see it listed or submitted, so I submitted it myself. Very fun jet pack FPSMMO with co-op dungeon crawls.
So many… I like the details, too. I remember when some of these happened, like when Telltale went out of business (and then upon coming back haven’t relisted).
Quite a few just have remastered versions, which I have mixed feelings about. I feel like they should allow both from a preservation perspective, but I also wouldn’t want someone downloading the older version out of confusion.
The Long Dark has a version manager where you can choose which version you want to play from the archives. It’s pretty great.
Nice when it’s official. Best I’ve seen is a mod that reverts changes.
Yeah wow, these explanations are so detailed. Most of them were delisted for server reasons as expected, but there’s a surprising amount of variety. My favorite reason was failing to pay the license fees for the engine they used. Not sure what I expected the consequences to be for that, but I didn’t realize you could get delisted from Steam.
All that would require is a DMCA takedown request by the license-holder. Don’t pay the license fee, you’re effectively pirating the engine.
Just include the original with the remaster and make the naming clear. No accidental purchases.
This brought back some memories. I miss Fractured Space and Hawken, feel like they got taken too early. I just learned reading about it on that site’s listing that Fractured Space died because Wargaming bought the dev… Why buy the dev just to kill the game? :(
I still got a Hawken tshirt in my closet I think
By the by, there’s also the RSS tracking bot @[email protected] for those interested. Also those and others I may find I post to [email protected].

Now I got more anti Valve+Gabe ammo.yar serious w/🐂💩?
Valve, the corporation, can afford to rehost these games and republishCX them in censorship free havens, like Antigua and Barbuda. They don’t have to be in Steam to still champion these games.
fudge, with how much money the corporation makes, they can buy their own island and rehost all these games, and then some.
Okay? And nation states have the resources to build a pile of pancakes a mile tall. But why the fuck would they do that.
Same reason the
richexploiters build mansions, pyramids, yachts, bunkers, and launch cars to space: because why not? Those things are not relevant. Unless I misunderstand you, you are suggesting Valve could do something altruistic that undermines its financial position, and you are suggesting that they should do it just for the lulz.
All the above. They can even charge a premium for these delisted games.
Dunno why y’all confuse a “worth reading” for a “I disagree.”
You are a troll. Valve can’t relist the original games publishers took down, unless they buy they buy rights…
I never meant anything about relisting.
Reread.
publishers don’t have rights to these games in those censorship free countries, esp. Valve’s potential copyright free island. It won’t be called “Steam,” but something more ethical than thePirateBay.
You are a troll. Take-two delisted tons of games, and has fuck you money.
I am not sure your point of continued libel, when I explained to you the solutions to the problem.
Unless you think trolls are will-o’-the-wisp or something.
Can you buy these “delisted” games or is it only for if you already bought it before?
If you already bought them you can still install them*.
*there are instances of shitty publishers removing access to games but that is not the norm.
You might be able to activate them if you get a key from somewhere (a boxed copy, key reseller, etc.).
Oh man, a lot of nostalgia in there. And not all of it good … I’m looking at you ArcheAge.
