To my knowledge (that is, a couple YouTube videos on the topic, this could be outdated/false information), there are some people who aren’t happy that the U.S. names itself after the continent of America (implying that they have a right to all of America, manifest destiny to the max). Whether that is true or not, naming stuff is always fun, so what is a good name that is representative of what the U.S. is?
My personal suggestions:
- The Liberty States
- since Argentina is the only country named after an element (silver), why not another? Perhaps the U.S. could be named after gold, after the Gold Rush which I think was a big thing? That or an element that can be red, white, and blue. Speaking of…
- The Republic of Red, White, and Blue
Please assume that stale carrot man isn’t in office and that the U.S. is currently being a reasonable and humane country that actually stands for democracy, liberty, and freedom.
I’d want the whole thing, but I’ll settle for “This place is not a place of honor”
Banadia
Oops, sorry, *Danadia. Or Nexico.
The Aristocrats.
Non United States of America
Eminem had it right. The Divided States of Embarrassment.
Country McCountryface
Perhaps the U.S. could be named after gold
The United States of Aumerica
amazing
I actually giggled :)
Even without Trump in office it still could not be reasonably called the liberty states
The continent is North America. The Americas are both the north and south continents. As a Canadian, I don’t give a rats ass. Just because Trump has the comprehension of a 3 year old we do t have to change things to make him feel comfortable. The are the United States of America, not the country of America. That’s just short form because it’s a mouthful otherwise.
Russia.
USSA
I think the US naming themselves after America isn’t really any different from the European Union naming itself after Europe.
It’s “United States OF America”, not “United States that are America”. It’s a bunch of united states that exist in America, not the states that make up America.

It’s not like the US was a leader in those things before Trump. He didn’t invent the issues, he just made them more visible. The US has always overthrown democratically elected governments to install dictators, and people have complained about its own election system for ages. There’s a lack of consumer and labor protections, and the fact you only have two right-wing parties and anything left of center is considered extremist opinions doesn’t help at all. It’s honestly hard to imagine the US actually standing for democracy, liberty, and freedom, beyond empty propaganda.
Fair enough, actually.
If they stopped calling themselves “Americans”, it’d be fine, but they call themselves as if they owned 2 continents (and they behave that way too). A renaming would be very much in order. Liberteria, The States, Trumpia, Costa to Costa, Burgerland, whatever.
“USians”
What’s funny is the old usage of American was a slur to denote people who came from the New World from old money and “classical” tradition. Now people like you are mad that it’s now being embraced as an identity. Some folks can never be happy and want to share.
“My identity is neocolonialism and megalomania”
I’m super mad right now.
Best take on this really dumb subject.
We have real problems to deal with, quit with this nonsense.
“The Country Between Canada and Mexico Formly Known as the United States of America.”
CBCMFKUSA for short.
All I see in that is
MTHRFKNUSA!
Trumpstein Island
United States of Britain or USB for short

Go back to the original European name - Vinland/Vineland/Wineland. Though that might have been in Canada, technically.
Better yet, find some pre-Columbian name for the land that was used by the actual locals. I’m sure there’s plenty of alternatives, and some of the most beautiful state names in the US came about that way. Maybe some Native American name for the Mississippi river could be a good starting point.
The thing is, these tribes would only have had names for small bits of it, not the whole land as a whole.
Maybe we could lean into Columbus even more and and call it ‘India’ /s
Yes, they had no concept of “owning land” because at the end of the day, that’s ridiculous.
