If you can, please donate to your local food and clothing banks.
Often money donations are best.
money donations are better than in-kind donations (food, clothing, goods, &c.)
the social services organizations like the food and clothing banks have relationships that allow them to purchase at or below wholesale prices. their dollar stretches far further than most of ours can.
which is not to say in-kind donations are not wanted, just if you have a choice, give them the money rather than your goods. use your goods yourself. don’t buy stuff just to give it to them. let them buy the stuff. they know what they need. if it’s old and worn out, something you’re thinking of throwing away, just throw it away. don’t use the food bank/clothing drive as a trash can. that’s pretty low.
It’s obviously a good thing, but how is it praxis?
deeds not words.
Critical support to millionaires and billionaires for donating what’s chump change for them towards charity. True anti-capitalist patriots in control
But for real though, while it does alleviate suffering and could potentially save lives (not all lumpens are the same), it ultimately just helps stabilize capital and keep the reserve army of labor at survival levels. If you wanna do it then go ahead, less suffering is always good in a brutalizing system that we have, but it just isn’t anti-capitalist in any way.
Getting involved at a local Food Not Bombs not only eases suffering, it builds community and helps people connect with like minded folk and hopefully organize even further from there.
