The “funny” thing is that the reddit admins are almost definitely going to force the mods to unban it within the week.
But so many mods can’t even pretend to care about doing something purely performative.
why would they do that without elon doing something
Why did Facebook or Amazon?
they blocked and then unblocked twitter links?
I’m sad it took this long for people to wise up, but I guess better late than never?
Fuck it, I’m logging on helping herd people over to Lemmy lol
The only reason I’ve been commenting at all the past couple years, lol.
I remember when Reddit actually had the balls to do something like this. They sold out years ago.
Isn’t spez a super admirer of Musk? I doubt Reddit will let Twitter bans stay in effect, lol.
This is my takeaway. I imagine Spez is pretty giddy at the thought of being mentioned with Musk, and is eagerly awaiting a phone call from Camp Elon so he can provide the solution (aka threaten mods to allow “Free Speech” or get replaced, and they’ll acquiesce again.
I wouldn’t recommend linking to it because IIRC it’s one of those web sites that can’t actually be relied on to serve the thing you linked to to the person who clicks the link. Instead it likes to serve complaints that they don’t have an account, kind of like Instagram.
On the bright side, it’s already trained me to not even bother clicking on those links.
I have been downvoting every post I came across that has a link to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. If those links are banned, I’ll have fewer downvotes to hand out. It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.
They took yer job!
I still have a Twitter account because I have to track down artist sources there, but I rarely post there. I brought it out of hibernation today to retweet the guillotine that executed King Louis XVI.
I’m not a fan of banning twitter (considering a large amount of the population uses it) thankfully I can go to a community/instance that hasn’t banned such thing.
Anything that makes the experience for the redditors worse is a good thing in my books.
It’s a cyclical problem right? People keep using it because everyone uses it.
You gotta rip the bandaid off at some point. If enough people do then the influences and news sources will follow where the audience is.

I’m curious about this one. Most people I know have used it, but eventually stopped. Journalists and public figures use it, and I think that gives it an outsized presence in our culture.
I can’t find stats from anywhere that seems reliable.

At its peak it had 70 million active users. It’s just widely used in media and press, so there’s a perception that it’s actually popular.
Most of the bans are actually ban on links is my understanding… Pics are accepted.
Just trying to cut some traffic for Elon slop
