Too bad AMC sucks. The one by me doesn’t even have the comfy modern seating that Regal has had for ages.

Really, no. Theaters make nothing on tickets. They make everything on concessions. They’re popcorn stores that also happen to show movies.

😂 your position falls flat on its face soon as you ask yourself: then why have ticket prices at all?

😂 the copium is strong with this one. Imagine ahilling so hard for a douche company like AMC. Man the world is wild

edit: copium above and below. rofl. guys seriously. no one gives a shit about AMC and their ticket prices lol. if you can reduce tickets by 50% and are planning to make it up via the concession stand. that only points out how completely over priced your concession stand is and the tickets themselves. get a clue. =)

While he is not wrong Source worked at a movie theater for 5 years. AMC model of shitty candy and popcorn is broken. What I don’t get why there are not more chains that complete with Alamo. Hell I go watch movies I have at home when they show movies from the 70s and 80s just cause Alamo has a fun atmosphere. At just point Alamo is not even in the same industry at AMC or regal.

probably because the alamo isnt a great experience either. i will grant that its more enjoyable than AMC. shrug I was simply playing with the fact AMC is overpriced garbage across the board. there is no argument one can make that will change this fact.

if they’re dropping ticket prices by 50% in the hopes that fucking tues/wednes traffic to the concession stands will make up the difference that only demonstrates how over priced their concession stand is. in either scenario they’re capitalist trash behavior unworthy of the shilling going on.

the entire media industry is fucked. shrug

Yeah but that’s what others have been saying AMC didn’t lower the ticket by 50% AMC negotiated with the studios to take a cut or is paying the difference to the studios out of pocket. A movie theater should be seen as two business in a trenchcoat.

The tickets are a direct transaction with the movie studios and they 99% of the total revenue on every ticket. In the old days theaters would get more of a percentage up to maybe 10%. You saw it where the movie would start in the big theater then move to the tiny theater.

That’s how dollar theaters worked they played older movies and passed their cut as a savings to the customer. the longer the movie stayed playing but now that theaters no longer have film cans and the studios control how many times that film gets played and pull it after a week or two.

The theaters are still only getting 1% of the ticket but still have to 100% cost of running the equipment and staff. All that money mainly comes from concessions

Lol, this after punishing moviegoers by putting ads at the start time.

Fuck off AMC. You’re part of why I stopped going to movies. Now I go twice a year, and it’s to Alamo, where I can have a burger and a beer while I watch a movie.

Plus few movies are worth seeing in the big screen anymore.

The only time I’m going to an AMC is to watch a movie in Dolby, and there are only 1 or 2 films a year that are worthy enough to be seen in Dolby. Otherwise I only watch movies that are IMAX-worthy. And thankfully there are now two true IMAX theaters within 20mins from my house.

Aron continues, “And second — those moviegoers are also seeking value on concessions. While moviegoers are not required to purchase any food or drink to take advantage of the ticket price discounts, there is an opportunity to add incremental snack purchase revenues for AMC on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.”

We have NCG and Celebration Studios where I live. They continue to raise the cost of concessions, to where it costs at minimum $50 for my son and I to go to the movies, get a large popcorn and 2 drinks. It’s getting ridiculous, so much so that we rarely go. When we do go, we choose NCG, and usually choose the Extreme 2D. When we saw Wakanda Forever, the sound dropped out twice, and then the picture dropped out as well. As in, the audio/video just stopped until I went out to get help, 3 times. After the third time, I asked for some sort of refund. They gave us 2 tickets to a regular showing, not an Extreme one like we had paid for.

$50 for 2 people to go to the movies is insane. Hell, they removed the flavored salts for the popcorn a couple of years ago, and now sell mini bottles of them at the concession stand. I understand that they make their money off of concessions, but something has got to give. Hell, they’ve raised prices and also shrank the actual sizes of the drinks and popcorn buckets.

We used to go to the movies often, but now maybe twice a year; the cost is just too high. If they brought their prices down to a more reasonable level, I bet folks like us who used to go once a month or more would be more apt to return. As it is, I just wait for movies to come out on streaming services. They are shooting themselves in the foot. But I get it, if there isn’t unlimited growth year over year, then they must extract more, while providing less service and inflating prices of everything they offer. 🙄
