my brother in christ, I was banned from alllemmy.ml communities (fairphone, signal, selfhosted etc etc) because I dared talk about the uyghur genocide.
It’s not just lemmy.ml… That’s the problem with any instance - that an idiot like me can just host one and be “the king”. Then a community grows, but the king still sits on the throne - whether he is qualified or not. Reddit had years to get rid of most of those issues with established modteams. Communities that had bad moderation faded away. Communities that “made it” had okayish mods since there were thousands of people to pressure a team acting like a-holes. Lemmy has barely any users compared to that, so a bad admin / moderator is more visible. Also, lemmy is heavily skewed towards echochambers, even more than reddit was.
Splitting communities just creates more issues - with having to crosspost to 2 or 3 groups of people who might not interact with one another. It’s honestly no wonder that there exists a “mega instance” in lemmy.world
Provided everyone sees it and moves there and not just stops seeing the content altogether and forgets about it. Remember, social media is like 95% lurkers. Also this assumes you are moving instances instead of there being two already that have different people watching them / moderating them.
There’s a movement to move most lemmy.ml-specific communities off of that instance and onto other instances, I’d recommend looking around for alternative communities to the ones you used before. A lot of people are tired of ml’s shitty moderation policies and overcentralization.
Understandable. Adding it was kind of a knee-jerk reaction after seeing someone unironically refer to hamas as “freedom fighters” and now it stays to show people not everyone shares their opinion on gaza. It can feel like An echo-chamber in here.
By no means do I think Netanyahus modus operandi is appropriate for this century, that’s not what I carry this flag for.
Israel (as in the state, not the civillians living under them) is practially doing the same thing as what Hamas is doing, terrorism. Both are terrible groups. I don’t know which one is the worse one, but if someone claims one of them is “freedom fighters”, supporting their opposition isn’t helping whatever your argument might be.
I strongly disagree with you on that. Israel has a right to self defense. While the means might not be adequately / appropriately humane, saying they’re the same is like saying thw US are the same as the Nazis for bombing Dresden.
One is the aggressor, the other is not. We can gladly diacuss the means (again, fuck metanyahu and his seemingly complete disregard fpr human life) but that doesn’t change the fact tht one side wanted a war and the other was forced into it.
Plus the fact that wiping out Hamas will create an opportunity for lasting peace between Israel and Palestine (whether united or split into gaza and westjordanland) while not wiping it out will just make history repeat (or rhime) itself in a few years/decade(s)
Netanyahu should be sent to Den-Haag, but Hamas needs to be wiped out anyways.
Reddit supports open dialog as long as they agree with it

Lemmy is even worse.
Lemmy.ml is one instance.
Join smaller instances so no one instance can dominate on many topics.
We should avoid creating monopolies.
Lemmy.ml has the monopoly on certain topics. Such as signal. The biggest alternatove is on kbin with 130 members (opposed to 1.4k on ml)
Signal is a non-political topic, just make another account to post there.

[email protected] is taking over [email protected]
It mostly took a post on [email protected] and a ping to the regular posters

.ml admins (yeah, the lemmy devs themselves, sadly) and mods are tankies, of course they banned you for that.
Just join a sane, smaller instance; that’s the beauty of federation (and defederation of harmful instances like .ml or .world or hexbear).
The problem is that for some instances there’s no alternative to lemmy.ml
Signal for example has no federated alternative
But I am open to a moderated, defederated, sane inatance if you know any.
You missed the beauty though in what happened though. Lemmy isn’t worse, one instance was. So here you are still.
Except I’m back to spending most of my time on Reddit again because the communities I most care about just so happen to be home on lemmy.ml
Only on mobile I still use lemmy because of the API disaster
There’s a movement to move most lemmy.ml-specific communities off of that instance and onto other instances, I’d recommend looking around for alternative communities to the ones you used before. A lot of people are tired of ml’s shitty moderation policies and overcentralization.
Yeah, but it just isn’t there yet. Look at [email protected]
Iz’s a de-facto monopoly and there’s nothing we can do.
What was the post?

Yeah, you can’t talk shit about ethnic cleansing with an Israeli flag in your username…
As I said back then:
I’m glad you’re speaking out against Uyghur genocide, but having an israel flag in your username is kinda sus considering what’s happening in Gaza.

Umm nah please don’t do that.

Do you have any source on the Uyghur genocide? Because everything I’ve seen has been debunked.
Fuck off you fucking genocide-apologist
So I take it you have no source?
