doing thing A
gets interrupted by thing B
thing C gets mentioned
thing A is now a landmine I will step on later in the day
When I forget the name of someone that I have known for ages. Especially frustrating when I see them somewhere and I’m scrambling through my phone contacts to see if it jogs my memory.
Then, all of a sudden POOF it comes back to me. So annoying.
I have the ability to somehow forget whatever it is that I’m doing literally as I am actively doing that thing.
For me, it happens especially with activities I do over and over again. Washing my hair, while rinsing I will forget if it’s shampoo or conditioner I am rinsing out, have to try to deduce it. Morning stretches I have to do in the same order, because I can remember the order to recognize where I am and do the next thing, but I have no memory of what I just did.
Keeping track of one-time sequences is also a problem, but at least in that circumstance I am more likely to have written material I am referring to anyway.
I notice it most when I’m trying to debug software and keep forgetting what I’m looking for.
Me: Sorry, what was that you said?
NT: Nevermind
Me: But I’m asking!
NT: Don’t worry it’s no big deal
Me: [suppressing extreme grief over what was certainly a big deal]

Stress makes it worse. Fortunately, constantly forgetting shit isn’t incredibly stressful!
that’s why important things go in the note taking app, and I hope I can open the app fast enough before the memory fades
Trying to retrace my last steps until I remember
I do that physically. The undo attempt. (Usually doesn’t work)
… What doesn’t work?

Apparently the most brutal form of this feeling is experienced by people with dissociative fugue, where your head is basically temporarily wiped all of a sudden.
Yup, I totally
