ADHD medication abroad is something I’ve researched a bit, and my understanding is the USA is actually not the worse by any means. Many countries, including Japan, completely ban stimulants. While the financial burden should be easier with nations with single-payer healthcare, like Canada, there’s still often the drug regulation stigmas that the USA has.

AFAIK it’s only the under-developed nations that have easy access to Adderall. I found a rated world map on r/ADHD, but it just broadly rates “legality” and doesn’t seem that informative because the USA and Canada is in the friendliest category. Please correct me if you have other info.

Lol jokes on you, I can only hope to find an appointment at a german clinic that will just write me the fucking prescription that’s only 5 hours away. Because every other option in hundreds of kilometers does not work, the local clinics can’t prescribe it because they wouldn’t get paid for it, my home doc can’t because her budget doesn’t allow it and the emeegency hotline 1. has no clue which doc does ADHD, 2. hardly has any appointments either because everyone is desperate and 3. can’t give proper appointments, just short emergency onces that amount to nothing.

Of course if I was rich I’d have my meds tomorrow morning.

Welcome to Germany, where we (by now) merely cosplay a working healthcare system unless you have the money and total lack of medical preconditions to buy yourself into the 1st class citizen’s system (private healthcare).

Without the capitalist nightmare you’d likely not need the meds.

True, but I wonder if the constant demands of capitalism exacerbates the problem.

Yes, yes it does. Mental fatigue from working a fucking set schedule that starts earlier than my body wants to every fucking week makes doing anything semi complicated during downtime exhausting.

When I take off a week and do what I want on my own schedule it is easy to get things I want to do done! Sure, I’m cutting lumber at 2 a.m. and using it two days later after getting sidetracked on something else the next morning, but I’m still doing the five total things I want to do over a reasonable time frame.

That’s one of the most confusing things about the current state of capitalist dystopia to me. Why can’t I just get a double espresso with Ritalin whip at Starbucks. This shit makes people productive.

We need some wider medicine-decriminalization movement. End the War on Drugs. I was trying to rally one up with a few former IRL friends, but we’re in the USA and there’s 80 ongoing crisis every moment, so it just didn’t seem like something people would have time for.

we DO. i’m in a position where i can’t pay insurance just so they can allow me the privilege to buy expensive, addictive medicine. i don’t want to plead every other month to a new doctor either. i know people in this position and i’m not doing this.

i’m an adult, let me have my fucking medicine holy shit. so i can more effectively work to the fucking bone for them? what’s the fucking holdup?

This is exactly how I felt too. I’m a grown adult. I don’t want to be babied. I didn’t like being infantilized as a kid or teen, and I won’t tolerate it now. I wanted stimulants so I would be able to do better work for other people faster and with less stress on me. Help Me Help You… Or spit in my face, I guess, and we both suffer.

(Also, stimulants aren’t addictive. That’s DEA propaganda. The ADHD brain is just naturally prone to dependency.)
