Omar Yaghi, a Palestinian refugee, wins Nobel Prize in Chemistry
Ten bucks says Netanyahu calls the Nobel Peace prize antisemitic.
Or this guy’s prize explodes after he is on his way home.
All these awards going out and none going to Trump.
They’re playing a dangerous game ignoring his achievements in all these fields.
/s for the chronically unsarcastic
the chronically unsarcastic
I was in a band of that name. Most of our songs were about how much we liked tennis and cycling
Regardless of if this is true or a joke, I feel that it would be sarcastic enough to count as the band having existed.
Yeah, Trump should have won the award in chemistry for his work in the field of injecting bleach into the human body.
The Nobel prize website says he won the prize (which he shares with two others) for “the development of metal–organic frameworks.”
Here’s the wiki page for the frameworks: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal–organic_framework?wprov=sfla1
And an excerpt relating to how they can be used:
MOFs are of interest for the storage of gases such as hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Other possible applications of MOFs are in gas purification, in gas separation, in water remediation, in catalysis, as conducting solids and as supercapacitors.
We gonna talk about the actual science he did?
Sure, what is your opinion on Metal Organic Frameworks?
In my opinion, while it definitely opened a new field, I don’t really see the real world application yet. There were a lot of research in my university regarding this, but it was all only: might be, could be, maybe. It hasn’t really found its killer application yet. It is not comparable at the time of price winning to for example the 2022 for the Click chemistry or 2019 for the lithium battery.
But that doesn’t mean MOFs are a bad candidate for Nobel prize or I don’t want them to have it. I just hope we quickly find a great application for them. But it might also be that it is more similar to relativity theory and it will take decades till we understand what this could be used for.
The thing was used in a new water filter iirc
Yes, there are already applications, but not yet at a level where you can say: that’s changing the world.
Thankful that this was one Palestinian who Israel did not murder. How many others, you think, haven’t been as lucky?
‘There was no such thing as Palestinians’ - Golda Meir.
/s (or, rather, dare I say, /ss)
Born in Amman, Jordan later emigrated to the US and has UScitizenship. Also has Jordanian citizenship.
He never fled from Palestine.
FYI this poster also denies the genocide in Gaza.
Samskara more like hasbara, am I right?
I have wanted the war in Gaza to end for a long time.
Do you think Hamas should accept the deal mediated by Trump?
Are you objecting to him being described as a refugee?
It’s disingenuous.
Apparently its not. I was curious and started looking it up:
Under international law and the principle of family unity, the children of refugees and their descendants are also considered refugees until a durable solution is found. As stated by the United Nations, this principle applies to all refugees and both UNRWA and UNHCR have recognized descendants as refugees on this basis.

This guy has Jordanian citizenship and American citizenship. Two countries were he can live in safety and freedom. That’s what durable solution means.
He was a refugee.
He is no longer.
In describing his history, you can absolutely include his status as a refugee.
