People often aren’t aware that the average PC gamer doesn’t have a 5090. The majority of people are using pretty outdated hardware. And Steam are certainly in a position to know that because of the Steam survey.

…Intel is trying at least. Battlemage is good, it’s just inexplicably not selling well. I’d have jumped on it a heartbeat if they made a bigger card.
I think Intel’s issue is that they’re focusing on the low end. Anyone with a 3060 or better would see the b580 as a lateral move at best, or more likely a downgrade. A b770 card would probably have gotten me to upgrade as long as they weren’t stingy with the ram.
I’m one of them, my Cpu and motherboard are both almost 10 years old. I updated most other parts but don’t want to mess around with those core parts in fear of damaging something.
At the moment I’m either considering finally making the jump to a new case, motherboard and Cpu with the parts I replaced over the years or I will buy a steam machine.
Same. I’m beating a 1080 within an inch of its life at this point. Some times, the system needs a hard reboot and BIOS just “forgets” that bootable devices are installed. It’s time, and that Steam Machine is looking really nice.

Cpu could be dangerous if you are not careful but video card is easy. Open case, 1-3 screws depending on old and new card, pull out, push in new card.

Yeah, that’s why I replaced the video card already. From what I’ve seen, the CPU is also doable if you’re careful but definitely a lot more fragile.
I have two “gaming” PCs. One with a 1070ti and the other with a 1080ti. For fancy graphics games, I rely on GeForce Now.
1080 TI is a gem, hold onto that.
I’ve got a 1080ti and it still run games just fine. I only play at 1080p resolution but my old eyes can’t tell the difference anyways.
That’s the thing, 1080p monitors are very common…maybe the most common. If that’s your resolution, a 1080ti will take care of you just fine. If I can keep my 1080ti’s fans from dying, I will probably use that card for another 5 years.
Do you clean your case filters? It’s something I don’t do enough of but it would probably help.

You can install Windows on it and should be able to play those games.
They are obviously saying that their hardware is powerful enough to play all games; not that all games support their choice of OS.

What may end up being the best selling console of all time is the first Switch which was maybe about a quarter docker as powerful as a PS4. This will be fine. It’s about as powerful as a PS5. It’s a strong minipc. Person plays FFVII Rebirth and then try to pickup the game dev hobby with Godot. It’s on Steam and Flathub. Play Cyberpunk and then open up Ardour for their music aspirations
I mean a big difference there is that the switch can only play games that run on it. There are going to be games that don’t run on the steam machine (or at least we’ll), just as there aren’t games that run on the steamdeck.
I think it will still do well, but that’s a big difference between the switches approach to low power vs the steam machine.

You can run servers, command line/console, play games, edit videos, make music, control smart home devices and way more. In what way, are these not PC’s?

Only reason I can’t play certain games is the developers want kernal level anti cheat. Luckily even Microsoft is working on getting rid of that.
AFAIK MS is ramping up intrusive anti-cheat.
Why would a customer care who’s responsible. Valve marketing is misleading. If a company said their headphones work with all phones but they were using a 3.5mm jack who would be responsible?
